Cairo rush hour, the Cairo museum is located deep in the heart of this huge city. We had set off fairly early in the morning, in order to get there just before it opened, and possibly avoid the worst of the traffic, and duly arrived just before 9am. What we should have been prepared for was the rigorous security presence there, which required each individual to go through a metal detector one-at-a-time, and have each bag searched. This was the place where some Greek tourists had been killed by extremists a few years previously, and the police/army weren't taking any risks. Overall, the museum itself was interesting and well layed out - there was plenty to see from all periods of Egyptian history, although the labelling of some items could have been a little clearer. It was very crowded, even just after opening for the day, and I found myself glad that we hadn't chosen later in the day for our visit. Anyway, below are some pictures of selected items in the museum. _Click on thumbnails for full-size images_ [1]mus1 [2]mus3 [3]papyrus1-thm [4]stone-hieroglyphs-thm [5]mus2 [6]papyrus3-thm [7]mus4 [8]mus6 [9]mus5 [10]papyrus4-thm [11]mummy-coffin-thm [12]back References 1. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus1/mus1.html 2. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus3/mus3.html 3. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus-p1/mus-p1.html 4. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus-stone/mus-stone.html 5. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus2/mus2.html 6. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus-p3/mus-p3.html 7. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus6/mus6.html 8. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus4/mus4.html 9. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus5/mus5.html 10. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus-p4/mus-p4.html 11. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/Museum/mus-mumm/mus-mumm.html 12. http://www.ancient-mysteries.com/index.html
